Trojitá, a Qt IMAP e-mail clientGetting the sourceGit

The code is hosted by the KDE project. You can obtain your local copy by running following command:

$ git clone git://anongit.kde.org/trojitaRelease

If you prefer to work with something more official, you can try the latest release, 0.7 -- download it from SourceForge (GPG signature).

BuildingDependencies

• Qt framework (>= 5.2)
• CMake (>= 2.8.11)
• Optional: the zlib library for the IMAP COMPRESS extension
• Optional: ragel (not required, a pregenerated file is shipped)
• Optional: QtKeychain for secure storage of passwords
• Optional: GpgME++ and Mimetic for cryptography (OpenPGP and S/MIME)
  

You will need the development version of these packages if you are building yourself.

Compilation

Go to the directory created by Git (or unpacked from the archive) and run:

$ mkdir _build; cd _build
$ cmake ..
$ make -j4
$ ctest -j 4 --output-on-failureRunning Trojitá

After successful compilation, you can run Trojitá from the build directory:

$ ./trojitaPrebuilt binaries no longer available

We used to ship prebuilt binaries of Trojitá for various Linux distributions and Windows but due to a lack of maintenance, they are no longer available.

Reporting bugs & requesting featuresIssue Tracker

Bug tracking happens in KDE Bugzilla (see list of open bugreports). If you encounter any problem in Trojitá, please file a bug. Wishlist items belong to the same place.

Previously, Trojitá was using Redmine for bug tracking, and some of the bugs are still tracked in the old tracker.

IRC

Trojitá's IRC channel #trojita (connect from browser) is hosted on Freenode network. The main author, jkt, is often there.

E-mail

There's a mailing list at trojita@lists.flaska.net, archived by GMane. To subscribe, write a mail to [url=mailto:trojita+subscribe@lists.flaska.net]trojita+subscribe@lists.flaska.net[/url], posts from addresses which are not subscribed have to wait for moderation. The issue tracker or the mailing list is the preferred way for reporting bugs and requesting features, while the IRC channel works well for general questions. You can also of course mail the author directly.

Setting up Trojitá

Trojitá takes a novel approach to email. While just about every modern email client supports multiple mail protocols, Trojitá supports only IMAP. That means it doesn't download your message from an email server. Instead, you access and work with those messages on the server via your desktop.

That makes Trojitá quite fast and able to conserve bandwidth. The latter can be important if you're using a slow internet connection or paying for WiFi.

Don't be fooled, though, Trojitá is still quite flexible. It supports multiple email accounts, lets you send and read HTML email, and permits either viewing details about the messages in your inbox or just focusing on one message at a time. You can also configure your own keyboard shortcuts to make Trojitá behave like other applications you use.
